Korean Bibimbap

Bibimbap is a popular Korean dish that consists of a bowl of warm rice topped with various sautéed and seasoned vegetables, often including some type of protein such as beef, chicken, or tofu. The dish is then typically garnished with a fried egg and served with a flavorful sauce, often gochujang (a spicy red chili paste).

As you all know I'm in BTS (Korean boy band) and a K-drama lover so I like to try some of the recipes that I can make in a vegetarian version

And I like to have bibimbap coz bibimbap you can make a vegetarian version also. and you can add any veggies according to your choice preference.

Basic ingredients you will need :

  • Rice: A base of cooked white rice is placed in a bowl.

  • Vegetables: Various vegetables are used, such as carrots, spinach, mushrooms, zucchini, and bean sprouts. These vegetables are typically sautéed or blanched and seasoned with sesame oil and salt.

  • Gochujang: Gochujang, a spicy and slightly sweet red chili paste, is a common condiment used to flavor bibimbap. You can mix it in before eating to add heat and depth of flavor.

  • Sesame Oil and Seeds: A drizzle of sesame oil is often added for extra aroma and taste. Toasted sesame seeds can also be sprinkled on top.

  • Mixing: Before eating, you mix all the ingredients together thoroughly. This ensures that the flavors and textures are well-distributed throughout the dish.

Bibimbap is not only delicious but also nutritious due to its variety of vegetables and protein sources. It's a popular dish in Korean cuisine and can be found in restaurants both in Korea and around the world.

Vegetarian bibimbap is a version of the traditional Korean dish that excludes meat or seafood and focuses on plant-based ingredients. It's a flavorful and nutritious option for those who prefer a vegetarian diet.

Here's how I make a delicious vegetarian bibimbap:

Ingredients:

  • Cooked white rice

  • Assorted vegetables (carrots, Green peppers, mushrooms)

  • Kimchi

  • Gochujang sauce: I don't use that ready-made one so I'm sharing my own sauce recipe here

  • Sesame oil

  • Sesame seeds (toasted)

  • Soy sauce or tamari (for seasoning)

  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:

  • Prepare the Vegetables: Wash and chop your chosen vegetables. Sauté them individually with a bit of sesame oil and a pinch of salt. Keep them separate to maintain their individual flavors and colors.

  • Prepare the Gochujang Sauce: Use Gochugaru or red chili flakes and red chili powder. Take this in a bowl and mix it with soy sauce, rice vinegar, and chili oil. Mix it well all together and use this as a sauce

  • Assemble the Bibimbap: Start by placing a mound of cooked white rice in the center of a bowl. Arrange the sautéed vegetables on top of the rice, creating sections for each ingredient.

  • Drizzle with Sesame Oil: Drizzle a small amount of sesame oil over the ingredients for added flavor.

  • Kimchi: I'm using homemade kimchi in this bibimbap recipe. If you like to see how I made Kimchi please visit my blog post. I already shared the recipe here.

  • Sprinkle with Sesame Seeds: Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the dish for extra crunch and nuttiness.

  • Serve with Gochujang Sauce: Serve the bibimbap with the Gochujang sauce on the side. Before eating, mix all the ingredients together thoroughly, incorporating the sauce.

  • The delicious flavors and textures of your vegetarian bibimbap!

  • Enjoy

Feel free to get creative and use your favorite vegetables and plant-based protein sources to customize the dish to your liking. The key is to have a variety of colors, flavors, and textures to create a visually appealing and satisfying meal.
