Bunny chow recipe



Bunny chow is a meal made from hollowed bread filled with a delicious curry recipe from an amazingly beautiful country called South Africa.

South Africa is full of generously stunning landscapes diverse wildlife and attractive beaches and some special food recipes. Bunny chow is one of the most delicious recipes from south Africa.

Bunny chow is simply hollowed out of fresh bread and generously filled with curry. That gravy can be veg or nonveg. You can make this bunny chow according to your taste

This can be made using whole half or quarter loaf of bread. Bunny chow is best for enjoying piping hot and using your fingers to dig right in.

One thing about bunny chow that I m pretty sure so many of you never heard about bunny chow before then you are in for a treat. This is so a delicious recipe that you going to enjoy with many variations. it may seem as though there is too much gravy but you will find that you will need a lot of gravy in that. The flavor of gravy must be standing out.


 

Why is the name bunny chow?

Don't be surprised by the name bunny chow but there are no rabbits in bunny chow. The name actually originated from the Durban Indian population known as ' Banya" chow is of course just another name for food So that's how banya chow become a bunny chow.

Ingredient

The ingredient I m sharing is for rajma curry but you can make any gravy curry in this bunny chow recipe.

  • Bread loaf

For Rajma curry

  • 1 cup Boiled rajma (red beans)

  • 3 Tbsp chopped ginger chili

  • 1/2 cup finely chopped green pepper

  • 1 cup tomato puree or chopped tomato

  • salt to taste

  • 3 tbsp red chili powder

  • 1 tsp turmeric

  • 2 tbsp dhana jira powder

  • 3 cups water or as needed per curry consistency


 

How to make a bunny chow

Step1: Make the curry

  • Boil rajma.

  • Heat oil in a pot.

  • Add the whole jeera let the jeera crackle and then add ginger chili paste or fresh chopped ginger and chili and curry leaves.

  • Saute for seconds.

  • Now add finely chopped green peppers.

  • Saute until it cooks.

  • Add now chopped tomatoes.

  • and saute for a few more minutes now add all masala.

  • saute again until all the masala flavor is mixed well.

  • Now add cooked rajma and mix well.

  • Now add water according to need. But make sure we need to make more gravy form.

  • So add water according to that. Let it boil.

  • Simmer it until it is cooked perfectly.

  • Now taste before you serve.

  • Add if you missing anything.


Step2: Prepare the bread cases

  • If your loaf is small cut it into half otherwise cut it into three pieces and keep the middle piece for turning into breadcrumbs

  • Run a sharp knife down the inside of each edge forming squares in the loaf be careful not to cut through the bottom of the bread

  • Using your fingers carefully pull the middle section out

  • You can toast the bread in the oven if you would like it to be crispy or leave it soft the choice is yours

  • keep removed bread for dipping in the gravy you eat the bunny chow.



 

To serve:

  • Fill the prepared bread cases with curry and serve

  • You can do this with a non-veg version also or any Indian curry
